Job Description: Care Coordination/MA/research opportunity


Enhancement Experience for Family Medicine Practice (taking care of patients: birth to geriatrics, all genders) in/around Annapolis, MD.


THE JOB includes:

  • 40-60% care coordination AKA clinical informatics specialist (CIS)
  • 20-40% work duties as a medical assistant (MA)
  • 20% physician - directed work, which may include quality improvement research.


The Care Coordinator (CIS) role includes:

  • Communicate between staff, patients, and family.
  • Handle patient case management and education.
  • Develop patient goals and monitor progress.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and quality care.
  • Help patients with navigation of the healthcare bureaucracy.
  • Communicate with patients, pharmacies, laboratories, and other offices.
  • Use population health data to succeed in this role.


The Medical Assistant (MA) role may include:

  • Escorting patients to exam rooms, taking vital signs, taking brief histories.
  • Performing CLIA waived lab tests on site.
  • Re-stocking supplies.
  • Answering phone calls, emails, questions, etc.
  • Managing patient scheduling, registering new patients.
  • Handling payments.
  • Entering patient information and scan, update, and file medical records.


Physician – directed work may include:

  • Assist with website content.
  • Small research/writing projects.
  • Training new enhancement experience employees.


General/Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Provide incredible customer service to every patient
  • Maintain absolute patient confidentiality and discretion in accordance with professional expectations as well as HIPAA policy
  • Attend to patients in a prompt and polite manner
  • Help maintain a clean, courteous, and professional working environment.
  • Maintain a welcoming presence to patients.
  • Manage extremely detailed and confidential administrative tasks
  • Assist the doctor with the multifaceted challenges of the healthcare industry.

We are interested in hiring a graduating senior or recent college graduate who will be taking a gap year prior to attending/applying to medical school or other healthcare/mental health graduate school programs.


Qualifications of successful candidates:

  • Interest in/GOAL of entering the healthcare/mental health professions (e.g., pre-med, post-bacc, pre-nursing, pre-PA)
  • Recent undergraduate degree in any field
  • Proven academic aptitude/excellent educational merit
  • Friendly and can-do attitude with patients and coworkers, and a great sense of humor
  • A caring and compassionate personality
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, a flexible and adaptable team player, and the ability to work in a continuously evolving environment (ability to work under pressure)
  • Computer/IT proficiency
  • Follow infection control protocols.
  • Will be immunized against standard communicable diseases (including but not limited to COVID-19 and Influenza) before starting the job
