Mt. San Jacinto Community College enrolls approximately 27,000 students each academic year and has a highly diverse student population that reflects the communities it serves. ABOUT ASSOCIATE FACULTY:
We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Instructor (Medical Assistant/Health Care Ancillaries). Mt. San Jacinto Community College District accepts Associate Faculty (Part-time) applications on an on-going basis for all disciplines. Applications which meet the required minimum qualifications are kept on file in an electronic format for six (6) months from the date the District verifies the applicant's qualifications. Various deans and/or department chairs will have access to these applications and as needs arise throughout the District they will contact those applicants they are interested in interviewing for positions they anticipate will become available.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements and duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this class.
- Provide instruction that includes lecture and/or laboratory classes in Assigned Course in accordance with established Mt. San Jacinto Community College District approved curriculum and course outlines
- Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance and participation requirements in a course syllabus
- Effectively teach and communicate with students of diverse backgrounds
- Advise students on academic and career matters
- Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submit them according to published guidelines
- Prepare and grade class assignments and evaluations according to course syllabus
- Maintain currency in field
- Develop, maintain and evaluate curriculum
- Develop, maintain and review course specific and program level student learning outcomes
- Promote student success through the scholarship of teaching and learning
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor's degree; AND Two (2) years of professional experience; OR
- An Associate's degree; AND Six (6) years of professional experience; AND
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Evidence of successful clinical and administrative experience as a medical assistant; demonstrated knowledge of computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and computer programs used in physicians’ offices; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Knowledge of:
- Evaluation and assessment methods
- Diverse learning styles and teaching strategies; demonstrated ability to work with and assist students having a great range of skills, motivation, and academic or vocational goals preferred; and demonstrated ability to review and evaluate curriculum and make recommendations.
- Certified, Registered, or Licensed Phlebotomy Technician preferred (AMT, NPA, ASCLS, ASPT, NCCT, CDPH, or NHA); CPR certified (AHA preferred) may be considered
- Certified, Registered, or Licensed Phlebotomy Technician preferred (AMT, NPA, ASCLS, ASPT, NCCT, CDPH, or NHA); CPR certified (AHA preferred) may be considered
Minimum qualifications for Faculty and Administrators for California Community Colleges are established by the Chancellor's Office. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications to teach in a desired discipline but feel that they possess the equivalent of qualifications, may attach an Application for Equivalence. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Environment: Work is generally performed in an indoor classroom that may also include working in a lab setting.
Physical: Primary function requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a classroom and or lab setting and may travel from site to site; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist; to lift carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds or more, carrying supplies, equipment; to operate classroom equipment requiring repetitive hand movements and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

THE COMMUNITY
The area provides a diverse geography that includes recreational lakes, mountains, desert and wide-open spaces. MSJC is located about 100 miles southeast of Los Angeles and 50 miles west of Palm Springs. There is freeway access to ocean beaches, skiing and cultural offerings in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County. Weekend recreational opportunities are a few hours away in Las Vegas, Arizona and nearby mountain resorts. Local theater productions and art galleries provide year-round entertainment, including the famous Ramona Festival and Pageant.
