Washington Nephrology Associates, LLP (WNA) is a partnership of physicians practicing Nephrology in the Greater Metropolitan DC and Baltimore area since 1984. The group’s history began much earlier, however, with the professional association of Larry Siegel MD, James H. Knephshield and William Criksena MD in 1965. These nephrologists established the Metropolitan Washington Renal-Dialysis Center in Bethesda, Maryland, the first outpatient dialysis center in Washington DC area, and worked with Congress on the landmark 1972 legislation that extended Medicare benefits to patients with end-stage renal disease. In the 1980s, they joined forces with several other nephrologists in the Maryland and Virginia suburbs, and Washington Nephrology Associates was officially born. Over the years, the partnership has continued to grow, and now has a strong presence in Washington, Baltimore, Bethesda, Alexandria, Takoma Park, Silver Spring, Fairfax, Woodbridge, and Annapolis. Our physicians are all board-certified or board-eligible in nephrology. A number of our nephrologists are on the faculty at the Georgetown University School of Medicine and the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and are active in teaching medical students and residents. Many of our physicians are listed as top nephrologists in Washingtonian Magazine, as well as other local publications.
