Medical Assistant
SUMMARY
Under general supervision, performs expanded and advanced level medical assistant duties including but not limited to:
- Identifying and resolving concerns regarding patient satisfaction, patient flow, and compliance with procedures and guidelines.
- Typically provides direct clinical support to one or more clinicians.
- Demonstrating a high level of competence provides back-up coverage for support staff.
- Works to improve clinical efficiencies of the operation by determining urgency and priority of walk-ins, add-on patients and patient consults.
- Provides direct clinical and clerical support to clinicians.
- In some cases, may support more than one department.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit
- A Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Associate degree in medical assisting or graduate of medical assistant certification program preferred.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
A bachelor’s or other non-clinical degree combined with an interest in healthcare and excellent problem-solving, multi-tasking, technology-literate skill sets can at times be substituted for medical assistant certification or work experience.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience typically acquired through three years in a clinical setting with at least one as a Medical Assistant.
- Computer experience required with the ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs.
- Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience required.
SKILLS
- Able to communicate in a professional and appropriate manner.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, and organizational skills required.
- Ability to be a quick thinker and relate to all levels of staff and patients highly important.
- Ability to prioritize work throughout the day in a busy environment.
