REPORTS TO: Supervisor

RESPONSIBLE AND ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

  • Efficient preparation of patient records and vitals for timely provider visits
  • Ensure that examination rooms are stocked, clean and organized
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and apply principles of infection control and universal precautions
  • Properly dispose of medical waste
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and employees
  • Ensure that there is medical assistant coverage for all patient care hours


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Warm and friendly demeanor
  • Graduation from accredited high school
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years medical office experience (Preferred)
  • Experience with EMR, practice management software and Medicare/MIPS requirements (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of medical practice and terminology
  • Excellent tracking and follow up skills
  • Participates in ongoing continuing education as related to position


TYPICAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
  • Normal color perception and corrected visual acuity and hearing to normal range
  • Involvement with patients, staff, physicians and management

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  1. Manage patient flow to assure timely patient encounters.
  2. Interview patient for reason for visit, current medications, allergies and record information in EMR
  3. Maintain tasks in a timely manner to include returning pts. telephone calls.
  4. Obtains patient vital signs
  5. Maintain exam rooms, cleaning prior to use and assuring stocking of all necessary items.
  6. Updates the EMR with patient history and medications
  7. Ensure all previously ordered lab work and test results are in the chart 2 days prior to the patient visit. 
  8. Enters all meaningful use requirements into EMR and provides patients with education materials and clinical summaries.
  9. Schedule procedures, tests, and complete orders for patients as ordered by the physician/P.A.
  10. Handle patient questions and phone calls within scope of practice
  11. Ensure that all medications are neat and organized and routinely check for expired medications and discard them appropriately.
  12. Scan and file documents in EMR – from fax log, outside organizations etc.
  13. Supervise pharmaceutical representatives as they stock medications
  14. Ensure proper stock of medical supplies and order supplies as needed
  15. Take patient phone calls and handle prescription refills and test results according to protocol
  16. Ensure that physician signs off on medication refills
  17. Perform Given capsules (prepare/discharge pt after disconnecting)
  18. Maintain patient portal
  19. Assist the physician and physician assistant with various procedures including, but not limited to, physical examinations, Infrared Coagulation, intravenous infusions, and cultures
  20. Performs other tasks as requested by the physician, mid-level and supervisor.
  21. Monitor test results/open orders to assure that all test results are received in a timely manner.
  22. Keep supervisor informed of incomplete work. 
  23. Attends staff meetings and participates in quality improvement activities.
  24. Telephone operator duties 

 

ATTENDANCE AND RELIABILITY:

  1. Does not abuse or take advantage of sick time.
  2. Always provides proper notification and advance notice of absences.
  3. Reports to work, is at the assigned station, and ready to work at their starting time.
  4. Returns from lunch on time.


OTHER:

  1. Maintains a well-groomed, appropriate appearance.
  2. Maintains a clean, well-kept work area. 


SCHUEDULE AND PAY RATE:

  • Monday - Friday
  • 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., or 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • $18 - 19 per hour depending on experience.
