General Office Duties:

  • Greet and log in patients arriving at office or clinic.
  • Complete patient intake in the EMR timely and with accuracy. Relay any relevant medical information to the provider.
  • Schedule hospital procedures.
  • Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures.
  • Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission.

  • Obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.

 

Computer Skills:

Tasks:

  • Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, height and blood pressure.
  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician or medical provider.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
  • Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies at the direction of the physician.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses.
  • Document all in house laboratory tests in the test log at time of testing.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and dispose of any/all samples once the testing has been completed. Liaise with Quest Lab Tech to ensure all samples that need to be sent out to the external lab have an order and are disposed of once the order has been processed.
  • Contact patients regarding outstanding treatment or incomplete orders from the provider. Document your actions and the patient’s response in the medical record. Update the provider as needed.
  • Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Maintain and enforce HIPAA regulations at all times
  • Other duties as assigned by Practice Administrator or Physicians based on needs of the office.
