Job Overview: At the Ayer Animal Medical Center, the Veterinary Technician assists in multiple procedures providing care for animals including surgery, physical examinations, immunizations, euthanasia as well as client education, marketing, and inventory maintenance. This position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceuticals, common diseases, and symptoms, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations.
  • Collect specimens and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests
  • Dispense and administer medications, vaccines, serums and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians
  • Provide daily call back to clients using good phone etiquette
  • Provide specialized nursing care for injured or ill animals
  • Educate clients on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs
  • Performing digital radiographs
  • Surgery experience required
The Veterinary Technician is responsible for providing assistance during surgical procedures, ensuring the smooth operation of the surgical suite, and maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety.
  • Prepare surgical suites with necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Sterilize surgical instruments and maintain proper organization in the surgical suite.
  • Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures including wound management, soft tissue surgeries, dental procedures, as well as radiology.
  • Monitor anesthesia administration and vital signs throughout surgical procedures.
  • Maintain a sterile environment by following aseptic techniques and ensuring proper sanitation of surgical equipment and surfaces.
  • Prepare animals for surgery by administering pre-operative medications and assisting with pre-operative preparations.
  • Provide post-operative care to animals, including monitoring recovery, administering medications, and managing pain as directed by veterinarians.
  • Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, medications administered, and patient vital signs
  • Communicate with pet owners regarding pre-operative instructions, surgical updates, and post-operative care guidelines.
  • Assist with the training and supervision of veterinary assistants and other support staff in the surgical department.
Surgical requirements:
  • Previous experience working in a veterinary clinic or hospital setting, with a focus on surgical procedures required.
  • Proficiency in maintaining sterile environments and adhering to aseptic techniques.
  • Strong understanding of surgical equipment and procedures.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia monitoring and administration.
  • The hourly rate is based on level of experience.

Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with an hourly rate ranging from $22-$25/hr. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
