Dr. Bruce Glassman, a Dermatologist in Alexandria, Virginia, is seeking gap year students beginning late spring and early summer 2024 to serve as medical assistants in his office ten minutes from downtown Washington, DC. This is ONE OF THE LARGEST BRIDGE-YEAR PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTRY and presents a unique and competitive opportunity to gain tremendous medical experience alongside a group of peers interested in pursuing a career in medicine. The program will be celebrating its 20th year of mentoring and educating future health professionals in a vibrant and cohesive healthcare environment.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Hands on patient care and surgical experience for the student mentored by two dermatologists, four physician assistants, and two Mohs surgeons.
  • A diverse group of 20 or more post-graduates nationwide pursuing careers in medicine.
  • 90-95% successful placement of medical assistants into Medical, PA, and NP programs.


Requirements to Apply (We will accept over 20 students into the 2024 program):

  • College graduate or planning to graduate in May 2024
  • Not applying to the current 2023-24 application cycle for medical or PA school
  • Commitment of one year from the date of hire (potential for an additional second year)
  • Opportunity to learn from clinicians at other affiliated offices around the area
  • No Medical Assistant Certification necessary


Job Description:

Assist the clinician with all patient care duties including triage of patients, scribing during visits using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) data entry, writing and understanding prescriptions and their uses, biopsy preparation and processing, preparing patients for surgery and assisting during procedures, and helping with cosmetic procedures (Botox, fillers, and lasers). This position also offers the unique opportunity for assisting our Mohs surgeons, learning grafting and histological staining techniques.

This opportunity affords the employee the chance to meet hundreds of patients per week, to develop the appropriate skills to further their career in the medical profession, and to learn the basics of dermatology. Medical assistants will also assist patients by working with insurance companies and pharmacies, educating patients on pre- and post- operative care, calling patients with pathology results, and performing suture removals and laser treatments.
